Whilst in the country
Sometimes whilst in the country
I’m feeling really great
As the breeze it rustles through the trees
And in me does create
Words that come out soft and sweet
As I’m wishing I lived there
Yet all around are countless folk
With faces filled with care
They’re just like all those city folk
But they have no excuse
Bricks and concrete all around
Is an awful kind of noose !
But in the country, boy, oh boy
How can folk be so glum?
How can they walk around like this?
With all their feelings numb.
To walk around and feel real grand
Is the way I like to be
I love to laugh, and dance through life
Though I am seventy
But if I lived out in the country
Sixty, I’d be again
Cause country life would make me feel
Like a fish, on a day of rain.
