Requiescat for Izaiah Herbst' Briton Riviere Free Poetry Contest

Requiescat for Briton Riviere Free Poetry Contest

a paladin placed upon a bier
passed away in his armored harness
his gundog a statue of allegiance
and his unarmored musketeer

sustained guarding his lord and master
his brown eyes so sad but riveted
reflecting his utmost intense sorrow
and his absolute disaster

grievous gundogs' breath at nose' length
near to his masters' unarmed cold hand
only waiting for the requiescat
eternity unites their strength

the masters' voice silenced for ever
with his gundog on eternal endeavor

This poem portrays the sadness of the gundog very well. It seems that he is sad, yet does not fully understand what is going on. It goes very well with the painting.

ok, now i remember this one that I had seen when I was doing research myself. Glad I came back and copied and pasted this link to review it. Yes, you chose a very good picture to emulate, Ellie.VERY well done. We both chose types of sonnet forms and similar themes. So cool!! I finally got mine posted. Wonder if you saw the picture I used.

Andrea - Poetry connects! That is one of the things I LIKE the most here... although there is that huge 'bucket filled with salty water" called the ocean between us" LoL Ellie

hey, yours is a LOT like mine. It is almost the same picture maybe. But my picture I saw had two dogs in it. I hope to post it later today or tomorrow. I think you did this challenge theme very well.

The painting "Requiescat"by Briton Riviere showed one dog .. which makes really a difference whether one writes about one single dog or more dogs... After studying more of his paintings there are some of his works expressing in a slightly different yet very sensitive way something else... That's why this contest was REALLY triggering and challenging me to capture just that in a poem.
