The ducks at Nornalup

The ducks come in the morn

The morning comes, the ducks arrive
Just now there’s two of them
Yet soon the others gather round
As they will do once again
Tomorrow, and the next day too
Until we leave this place
As I sit and watch their little antics
A smile alights my face.

So tame, these little feathered guys
They’ll let me touch them too
They remind me of the doggie kind
As they act the way they do
I feed them bread, it’s whole wheat too
And they catch it when I throw
There’s something about these handsome guys
That gives me quite a glow.

They waddle off, with food all gone
Then the daylight creeps on in
The river looks so still and dark
As the new day does begin
Then the twitter of the tiny wrens
Does fill the morning air
And soon there’s birdsong all around
And life is everywhere.

Peter, You do great work. I felt the tenderness when you touched them. I saw the light of dawn as it crept over the peaceful water.... and I heard the wrens shouting love to all as a bright new day began.... Magnificent work.... Jake
