Obama struggles to wow rising Africa

”His $10 million pledge to fight wildlife trafficking in Africa was also seen as relatively modest given that a single rhino horn can sell for tens of thousands of dollars on the international black market.”

Tell the White House You Care About Horses
Dear Friend,
Although 80% of Americans oppose the slaughter of American horses for human consumption, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has given the green light for the grisly practice of horse slaughter to resume on U.S. soil. The agency has announced its plans to approve applications for horse slaughter inspections to allow these plants to operate. This approval was given despite the brutality of horse slaughter, the devastating impact horse slaughter plants have on communities, the fact that Congress is likely to cut off funding for horse slaughter, and the potential danger horsemeat poses to human health.*
Please call the White House at 202-456-1111 and tell President Obama that you are disappointed in his administration’s decision to resume horse slaughter on U.S. soil and ask him to take a stand against this inhumane, unnecessary, and wasteful practice.

Interesting stuff down here I am reading between you and Chris, Suz!! The US I remember is gone forever. My son was telling me just yesterday as I bitched about health care here, "welcome to the new normal, Mom." And what's even sadder, we are still better off than the majority of the world's population. Now THAT is frightening. I feel bad for all the world's people having to live with the stress of just staying alive.

Yes, I remind myself every day how blessed I am. There are many living below the breadline. Love, Su

Back again. I apologize for not really commenting on your actual Clerihew; I am in one of those moods today. Don't get me wrong, I love humanity, but not the platforms which groups of humans devise in the name of greed. And I love South Africa, it holds a special place in my heart. In the long run, wot sort of positive influence can America have on the South African economy? Has America EVER practiced positive, sustainable economics!? There are always strings(chains?)attached.

The USA gave us "Dallas", "MacDonald", "KFC", and "Playboy" - the latter was banned until the freeing 1994 elections.... ;-)

China has been billed the next Super Power. Hence SA being part of the BRICS group. this Clerihew was to illustrate the absurdities of it all.

So really, admonish US relations, but open the door wide to China instead? Or both? As far as I am concerned, all three governments equally(or should I say the strings?)engage in insidious economic practices. That said, the American Hydra appears to have had enough of its heads cut off at once....the heads are growing back, but much weaker. The Beast is dying. Modern China is absolutely frightening -- an abomination for the planet and for the human soul.

Intriguing. Hullo, Su. I find the South African anti-imperialist protests against US relations, quite humourous in a jaded sort of way. South Africa practices sub-imperialism....sometimes in a brutal manner. No matter how bad its economic situation might be at any given time, the nation is an economic doorway into many parts of Africa. Whoever holds the key to South Africa, has economic access to many other parts of the continent. Which is why the Chinese are crawling all over South Africa.

You are spot on, Chris. And this had led to South Africa having a chip on its shoulder - the gateway to Africa. Ie Anyone who wishes to trade in Africa, has by necessity have to go through SA. SA is ruled by a communist party, who the world had hailed as the solution at the time..... Ironic,, I think. China needs land - something SA got plenty of.

Makes you wonder if the President sits around all day writing poetry!

lol.... We recently had a disturbing report that highlighted that much of our meat products include horse meat and DNA traces of wild life animals.... Hence the "preserving wild life" and the duty free trade promised. It is really trading in "horse"..... ;-)
