THE FOUNDLINGS

The little lad was skipping puddles dug
Old shepherd stooped low to the frozen ground
Against the cold wind the dog huddles snug
Heads cocked to better hear the mournful sound 
Both surprised by the bundle of rags found
Their matted hair washed in a nearby stream
By frayed piece of string joined, they fairly beam
