You Can't Remove the Glitter from Silver and Gold

Our love’s been bathed in sunlight and in the moonlight’s glow. It comes close to being eternal and we have come to know That when our time is over this truth will always hold – You can’t remove the glitter from silver and gold. Life will try to tarnish precious things we find Living all around us yet always seem confined. There is a sheen of greatness even when they’re old. And some get even brighter, with age, or so I’m told In life we’ve known the safety of sweet and caring arms That embraced us with comfort and protected us from harm. No threats have ever reached us where we were not consoled Knowing you cannot remove glitter from silver and gold. Our love has always been there as, steadily, we grew old We never tried to separate glitter from silver and gold. Written By John Posey 06/21/13

You've drawn me here by your more than kind comments and I'm so glad I came--I too love sonnets but usually the named forms can be too restrictive to produce a write like you have here so I would call it a Modern Sonnet---but I digress because its beauty and warmth lives in its own world famously and you have said it with the magic and wisdom and love and it truly glitters!

well, look at this, a sonnet!! VERY nice, John. I love your repeating line too. In fact, this is not a traditonal sonnet. now that I think of it. I believe this is a Kyrielle Sonnet!! It's been a while since i did Kyrielle. but yes, I believe that is the form you have used , a kyrielle of sonnet form!

This is one of the most beautiful love poems and sonnets which I've ever read my dear friend John! I love it sooo much. The refrain made it unique & very beautiful. The silver and gold made your gem too precious. A favorite of mine! Thank you so much for sharing and your very inspiring comments on my poem. Have a great weekend! love and hugs, Leonora

Nice analogy of a couple's love to the natural glitter of silver and gold. That's why those two precious metals are held in high esteem by so many; even though their prices on commodities markets have dropped recently.

You are right about the fluctuation of the value of silver and gold.. I think of relationships (marriage) and silver and gold as long term investments... Thanks so much for your comment.... Jake
