Close to You- Echoes of Karen Carpenter

Karen Carpenter wondered
Why the birds fell down from the sky
Every time, you walked by
“Just like me,
They long to be
Close to you.”

Didn’t she know?
Couldn’t she see?
The beauty and grace
The double halo
The follows you wherever you go?

“On the day that you were born
The angels got together
And decided to create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moon dust in your hair
And golden starlight in your eyes of blue.”

She croons the tunes of my heart
The two things that make my soul
Light as a feather and ready to take
flight...
A look in your eyes
Blue as the skies
Deep as the sea
Timeless as eternity

Hair that sways
Softly in the breeze
Falling on your face
Teasing my senses
Making me long to reach out
And run my fingers through each strand
The lion’s mane in my hand
Power at my command

“Just like me
They long to be
Close to you.”

"Close to You" was the first of many of the late Karen Carpenter's hit songs. It was also featured in the 1972 movie "The Heartbreak Kid". Good write.

I'm not familiar with Karen Carpenter, but aside from that, I'm impressed once again. When that stanza came for another go around you made it say something a little different. Enjoyed :)

Tremendous, I remember hearing this song as a child. It is very sad how Karen passed away but we are left with her wonderful music.

Ha ha, I should write one about my brown eyed Girl. I think that is the title of the song but I can't think who the artist was.

Thanks, Richard. Many of her songs speak to my heart! She has such a lovely voice with such an extraordinary range...too bad she let anorexia get the better hand. Thanks for the post.
