Buster and The Boy

The boy had a very sad look on his face
Sauntering along the road at a snails pace

I wanted to ask him if something was wrong
But he kept walking his dog following along

What a picture the two of them made
In their own little world moving to the shade

Sitting down with a great weight on his shoulders
I walked over to him and felt a little bolder

His head down as he shuffled stones out of his way
I asked him how he was on this beautiful day

His eyes filled with tears as he tried not to cry
Buster is sick and Dad says he is going to die

He looked up at me and said he is my best friend
And I don’t know how to help him get to the end

I sat beside the boy with the saddest eyes I’ve seen
I think you are doing the very best that you can

You see he just wants to be with you today
You make him happy by taking time to play

He knows you love him because you are here
Walking with him and by just being near

When his time is up you must always know
That he was your friend and had to go

He had a good life but he has played his part
You will hold his memories safe in your heart
