Existential State of Being

Universe so great and wide Can barely feel myself inside Existence insignificant In this great scheme am I an ant? What is the purpose, rhyme or reason For the changing of the seasons? And can you tell me why it rains For days on end Is it a trend? Will I find out around the bend? Or will my search be never-ending The walks of life be aimless wandering Never knowing up from down A happy smile or sullen frown? And will it even really matter If I never know the answer No use to wonder Or moment to ponder Should haves would haves May haps could haves What´s done is done No turning back The hands of time I can´t rewind So even if I am unsure The point to keep in mind is this Right here and now, this very hour Is all I have and all there is.

I will be honest in that I have been reading poems here to see if the person actually wrote in the intended form. Hey, forms can get boring, and there are many exceptions to the rule; there are usually several different ways to properly write a form. Anyway, I was curious to see if you captured the Carpe Diem essence, the 'seize-the-day' mantra of this form....and you did. You did a good job with using existentialist musings to bring home the theme.

Chris, you can't imagine what it means to me to have someone consider I did, in fact, manage to convey what I intended to express, and that it wasn't all in my head! I mean, I know what I'm talking about, but I always wonder if maybe other people won't get it. It held me back from submitting my poems for a very long time. Thank you for your encouraging words.

It's all about the "YOLO" state of mind. We are only promised now, not tomorrow. This piece was a good reality check. Very, very well done!

Drake, thank you so much for your kind words! Good reviews are definitely an incentive to keep on posting the rest of the poems I've written so far. Hopefully you'll like them, too ;)
