Lament to Grandpa Troll

Grandpa Troll! Grandpa Troll! Hurry! Come at once! Dragon broke my foot!
He tripped over his invisible Chameleon Dogasaurus pet. Stomping on my foot!
Darn it all… Darn it all… I think, I’ll put my cast up his cute little… ornery butt.
I know! I KNOW! I should have, given him a whistle to wake up his sleeping pet.

And his Lolly can’t be seen, whenever she’s at rest. Still, if I gave him a whistle…
At sunrise he’d blow it in my ear… cause he thinks it’s time for me to get up!
You know he’d enjoy blowing that thing at four AM, then sneak off for a nap!
OH! I’m not in the mood to argue, this thing; I need to get quickly to the Doc!

Bummer! Bummer! Now I won’t be swimming in the lake, till later in the fall!
It’ll ruin my summer! What do you mean? I shouldn’t complain, so much, at all!
I was about to cut the grass! And, yes to paint the house, and other outside stuff!
Like running thru the grass! And, I can’t wash my car while playing with the hose!

I’ll have trouble driving with this foot… Oh woe… oh woe… is me, for sure!
Summer’s here! I’ll be trapped, in a cast! It’ll itch, whenever I’m out in the heat!
Darn it all… Darn it all… couldn’t he have done it… in the icky, chilly later fall!
I know! I know! Complaining doesn’t help! But it hurts! My future looks so, bleak!

You’ll mow the lawn… and wash the car? The other Trolls will paint the house?
And Dragon will HAVE to give me rides… where ever I want to go, for sure?
Well, he does look sad… Those are really big tears… He says he’ll let me fly?
Maybe with family all around, it won’t be so bleak… as I originally, first thought.

We’ll have a party, to sign my cast? Grandpa Troll you surely are the very best!
Quite crying, Dragon… and help me up… This can be a great adventure, after all!
And I promise to get a whistle, just for you… if you don’t blow it in the night…
Hurry up, you guys! It hurts, you know! Be careful with my foot! It’s time to go!

Dedicated to all us kids with broken bones... in the summer.

Carol, you're amazing--you must have sooo much fun story telling with the little ones--what an imagination!

Now this is tough, you gotta mow lawns to pay for Mother's day, yet you've got a broken foot and can't mow lawns. I sense a real dilemma here! But, you've got a dragon to fly you around sightseeing...life is full of compromises, no? So is it an old-fashioned plaster cast or one of those boot/splinty things?

Carol, the way in which the mood swings toward the more positive as I read this just made me feel sweet inside. The items you mention on the work list are iconic for many of us working folks. Plus you framed this in a fantasy. I am blown away! It's a pleasure to read your work. Thank-you!
