Micke--why

As I climb this jagged twisted trail leading to who knows where;
I continually wonder just how I managed to get here in the first place.
As the demons maneuver from within a haze of poisoned gas making hope for clarity futile
Absolution becomes but a dreadful tact of doom drifting in the winds of lost faith;
 And why would anyone continue to watch;
 As the past peels like burnt paint right there before their very eyes;
Too many exceptions to the rules perhaps and maybe too many queries of the rules itself;
And I suspect that perhaps today because of that I may have lost my way
