The Promise

Today's my 30th birthday and he promised to celebrate
"We'll dance the night away and NO... I won't be late!"
It was me who needed him as he scurried out the door
"I have to go! I'm late! You're pretty as before!"

This was different from other days as my heart took flight
To watch the man I love soon disappear from sight
It must be insecurity when a birthday rolls around?
Or is it simply "Over" for that's the excuse I found?

Thumbing through my closet, zip a black sexy dress
Even without makeup and though my hair a mess
I'd just answer the door before they beat it down
Knew I'd find approval for my perfect birthday gown!

"Yes just a moment . . .I'm coming to the door"
"Mam, there's been an accident. You'll need to tell us more"
"So Sorry for your loss. . . please come with me"
Broken promise, Perfect gown, Dressed appropriately....
