At the Door of a Friend

At the Door of a Friend

With footfalls heavy to this door
Where I would see my friend no more
What comfort could I hope for me
Now you’re gone to destiny

No more welcome of the hand
Just empty space, a rift in sand
And no more face with smile of glee
That heralds informality

Where will I go to search my soul
Who will help me reach my goal
Who will stab my selfishness
Put my mind at ease, at rest

Call me up with sports results
Suffer my insane insults
Mark me as a friend indeed
Be there, in my time of need

Your light was always on for me
The truth I now stand here and see
Those times of sheer belligerence
Those wasted hours in ignorance

The fallouts that we often had
Those times that always felt so bad
Were only testing of our strength
To know what friendship really meant

Opens the door, she passes note
I read the words therein you wrote
That scribble, that once so annoyed
Is more welcome and enjoyed

I smile and read how this is neat
As all my words above repeat
And more to know when I am gone
To look and find, that light still on

I see you were asking about the Long sleep. I don't know what the artist intended for sure, but to me, the man had died in his sleep . wish I could find out if that is what the artist intended by his painting!

Reading your poem and i am in mourning myself over my best friend brother who passed away 3 weeks ago. How i do feel your pain, how much you miss him, how lonely it can get. Life is getting harder and harder to deal with many issues. You do deserve the win, congratulations. Terry xoxo

Thanks for reading The Golden Standard, earlier today. I understand my views on things is at times a bit naive, due to lack of experience and years. I just wanted to say I was letting go a pile of frustrations that were building up, when I wrote that. And I've replied to both of your comments...

Thank you Andrea, I feel I'm one of those lucky ones, I walk through town and at least half a dozen peeps stop me for a chat. sometimes ones I have not seen for years, funny thing is they call me by whatever name it is they remember me by, which is anything from a dog to an unmentionable, but they always greet me with a smile, can't beat that.
