ROCKHOUND

                                          THE ROCKHOUND

The warmth of stones emits small sounds

                           Like whispers to the skin

Their color pure --Sun's fingerprint-- that

                           Blazes from within.

                           Scruffy pockets, tiny hands

                           Collect a scope of shapes--

And big girls yearn for dazzle

As they diamond pin fur capes.

                           Some hands are called

                           By pebbles on

                           Every casual walk .

Eyes-- eagle search -- another find--

                           There is no worthless rock.

Some traverse to the finest rags

From birthhome in far off mine…..

                           But the sweetest stone is

                           Hammer smashed--

                           Plain rock divulged divine.

Dear Victoria - Sometimes poetry is not in the understanding but in the beauty and textures of the lines. "Plain rock divulged divine". I can think of a couple of 'meanings' Maybe the ten commandments (prefer not to think so) or plain rock more beautiful valuable than precious stones. loved reading this one. love, Kathy

no, did not think about the ten commandments--although as in all art, it is in the eye of the beholder--rather that sometimes the plainest person or situation often turns into the greatest treasure...cosmetic beauty is often superficial--inner beauty takes effort to discover....

Victoria, I have to say that this poem was a compilation of beautiful confusion. I was with you in the beginning, but by the time I got to the end I was scratching my head. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw it as a tale of the diamond from the mine to the final owner. It started out good but just kind of fell apart at the end with no culmination to the story or imagery. You didn't hold true to the form that you started with which made it hard for me to follow. But that's just me. Rockman.

sorry that it caused confusion...in fact, i removed the reference to the diamond mines because i did not want to mislead another reader...thanks for the tip....
