In the Meadow

Empty and hollow...

Mother who said I was never good enough
Those that stood there, snickering, as I wallowed in the mud
Father who took every sin I ever sinned and chewed it like cud

Empty and hollow...

Sister who used me like a crutch
Friends that pushed me under the bus
Brother who hugged me once and called it love

Empty and hollow...

But it turns out I was wrong all along
No one is ever truly, empty and hollow
For I found out once...

... and what I found was blood

Wow, this was so GOOD poem! Family ties us all together whether we like it or not. Really well said!

It seems everyone took this a bit differently with that ending... I really enjoy reading the varied responses... I like the way you viewed it with the family message (I honestly wasn't thinking that...).

So sorry, "Little One". Sometimes family can let us down, but hopefully a few good friends will be around to lift us up. Boy, if they only truly knew how gifted you are! And all I would say to you is, carry no more, this baggage...leave it in the past..Let today be a new day for you, Tim. Another great poem by the way! Annalise

Eek! What a surprise indeed. A very powerful and touching one. Everyone has felt these feelings I'm sure, from different people. I can relate . Have a pleasant rest of the week and good luck on the contest. Always, Laura

BTW...I did comment on this poem, but now I don't see it. I said that this is your best poem yet, in my opinion. Have you read the poem Hollow Men? One of my favorites...give it a read. The emotions you have expressed here are phenomenal! Great work, my friend.

Thank you Eileen! I am glad you could connect with it and I will have to check out Hollow Men, as well!

Timothy, I'm back to comment on what you wrote regarding my poem: My Mother's Eyes- Thoughts on the Armenian Genocide. My dear, the reason you haven't heard of it is because it was carried out by Turkey who is an ally of America. 1.5 million Armenians were marched into the desert on what has come to be called, the Death March. I won't go into details....April 24 marks the anniversary, and I will post another poem on this. My cause is to fight for recognition. Please...please read up on it.

Sometimes people love us in their own way and somehow it is just not enough and yet in the end it has to be because that is all they have to give. I guess that's why we are given friends so that we can fill the love gaps.

A profound statement. It's an incredible gift to simply have friends that know what you're going through...
