I Know I am Going to Die

I know I’m going to die
It’s just a matter of time
Till my body catches up
With my state of mind

When the deadness of my heart
Will make its beating still
When my mind just shuts down
Almost against my will

When every living fiber
Like my soul gives up the fight
When my body finally slips
Into that endless night

The blood coursing through my veins
Is slowing down its race
There is that tinge of death
That's reflected on my face

Shutting down every function
My body is giving in
Sensing there's no desire
The battle of life to win

It's clear all of my tissues
Have finally come to see
That there is no breath of love
That can give life back to me

I used to have nightmares about this when I was very young... thinking about it would literally keep me up for a couple hours. Perhaps that's not very healthy though... It's good to KNOW you are going to die while at the same DECIDING to live. Good work as usual!

Thanks, Timothy...growing up, I lived with the knowledge that my Mama was going to die as she had MS and I had to see her go from bad to worse! One day...she just looked me in the eye and said, "You're scared I'm going to die, aren't you?" My outburst of tears which she shared! She always tried to shield me from that, but we both knew....Thanks for the post.

Time to live today, death will come soon enough. Well written and all the more reason to enjoy each moment we are afforded.

Well, my dear, the death of this body is the birth of the spirit which free of all limitations and worries and pains of flesh enruptured will live life eternal! WAIT THOUGH YOU HAVE A LOT MORE TIME IN THE FLESH THAT YOU THINK! Good writing, wrong conception! Ha-Ha!

My dear poet...thanks for the comforting thought. All the days we live are written in HIS book, before even one of them came to be. I may go sooner than you think! Only He knows...but thanks for the encouragement.

Bit morbid here Auntie lol I wouldn't worry, it's a realisation that comes to us all. You have plenty of time left. Take care, Richard

Thanks, Richard! It isn't so much about the physical death, but the anguish of being part of the living dead with no feelings inside! How are you? Doing well?
