Hylas

Inspired by the painting Hylas and the Nymphs by John William Waterhouse.

Hylas

I will let the water sleep inside me
hoping.
You will move amongst the anemones
in silence and distance to great for anyone
but me.

Where red angels come up.
Where transoms
And white fish are swimming
deep.
like lanterns in the dark.

Ondines,
I am not afraid.
To let the water sleep inside me.
To Let the waves undo me
and bring me where I am one
beneath the sleeping ships.

And embrace
where the white fish are swimming.
Deep,
Deep,
like lanterns in the dark.
