Phobias

Phobias

Gut wrenching fears that steal my sleep
And haunt me in the day
Always aware of them being there
But I can’t make them go away

In the darkest corners of my mind
Where the beasts of nightmares hide
I struggle oh so desperately
To keep them locked inside

I gasp for breath in the dark of night
My eyes are opened wide
Seeing only blackness in my room
You were here where do you hide

If only I could face you
If only I could fight
Then maybe I could vanquish you
To a place far from my mind

I never know when you will come
Or how long you might stay
I only know that with each visit
Some sanity slips away
