About This Poem
Pearls
Conceived in darkness far from land
Such beauty from a piece of sand
Bathed in the arms of the emerald sea
Marvelous that the pearl came to be
Luster heightens through the years
Perhaps softened by my lady's tears
Once nestled in her gilded chest
On red velvet they safely rest
She cradled them in her gentle hand
Each one held by a silken strand
Then falling 'neath her auburn hair
A gift from nature hanging there
The pearl's beauty we do embrace
Such a simple gem of lasting grace
