The Different Year

That year was different.
That year, we discovered things.
Time got longer for us,
Our cages more confined.
We learned who was real,
And who wore a mask.
I found out how many
Tears I could cry.
Laughter was found
In unexpected places.
Changes happened daily,
Our expectations never realized.
Words were spoken lightly;
Truth and lies so similar.
We were growing up,
Too fast, yet so slowly.
It was a year of learning.
Of changing.
Of discovering who we are.
It was grade twelve.

Though being homeschooled since I was eight I can still appreciate this. You give a very broad range of what it's like entering into the end of school days... the awkward space in time where you're not quite an adult, nor a child. Then again I guess we are all constantly growing... well penned!

Thank you very much! I actually was homeschooled until grade six, so I have experience of both.
