About This Poem

Battling Addiction

Those battling addiction, battle denial
Convincing themselves they hide behind their crying smile

Forgetting yesterday's bridges they burned
Loved ones lied to and lessons we've learned

We watch helplessly as someone we know
Goes through the highs and valleys so low

Praying in time they find their way
To choose freedom - the dragon to slay

I've seen the fire put out - the dragon dead
And a happy ending for my friend

Praise God...

This couplet touched me so much. Two years ago I was an alcoholic, why not now you may say, because I have stopped two years ago but I don't know what I do tomorrow. God bless you for an inspiring poem.

Good poem. It is not easy to battle drugs. Once you take them - it's hard to leave them. Thanks for sharing. Good luck in the contest. Lucilla
