About This Poem
Rainy Day
He brought some flowers home today.
An inexpensive little bunch
He’d picked up at the grocery store
He said he wished he could do more
Like dozens of roses in full bloom
To fill my room with a nice bouquet
But oh, those flowers he brought to me
Were priceless in their simplicity
What a sweet surprise, for no good reason
It wasn’t my birthday or Valentine’s Day
He only brought them just show
He was thinking of me in some way
See, I don’t need expensive gifts
Or to go on special fancy dates
A simple walk in the park would do
No fancy dinners at fancy places
A picnic in the evening light
Would satisfy my appetite
Romance doesn’t have to take a lot
It can be as simple as a conversation
Showing an interest in what I believe
Or letting me know he’s thinking of me
In simple yet creative ways
Like bringing home flowers on a rainy day
