About This Poem

Stairs in the Darkness

I see some sort of stairway in mid-air Curious I approach the lonely stairs They reach high enough that the darkness reigns They are an indication of our lairs There are homes at both sides of this stairway A dark way up, it goes into darkness The steps don’t go high but are still eerie You must be crazy to reach the madness Now I’m underneath the stairs that’s floating I had to reach to catch the lowest step I pull myself up, not knowing what’ll come Slowly I feel the stairs move up with pep They stop over a house not far from home I ascend the stairs to battle darkness I break the barrier of light to dark Now I understand the purpose, to rest To move to another realm that has hope More than the dimension we live in now Tremendous is the darkness, it has life The steps are a blessing, others ask how I take a little of the formed darkness Love even has found its way deep inside The stairs have brought life and love above all Now I keep it all to heart, I abide

Hmm. Ok Russell. I've given this poem some time to seep in. By that I mean that I milled around the house. Got myself a snack and done a few other things while thinking on this one. First, let me say, the form was very good and I enjoyed it. But I was perplexed by the content. Are we not taught to rise into the lght and descend into the dark? That's where I was lost. If you rise up to where the darkness reigns, then you have to be deeper than the darkest of darkness to begin with.

And if you end up below the stairs, you are even deeper into the dark. Maybe "You must be crazy to reach the madness". Thanksfor making me think and write. Rockman :-)

Thanks for catching my errors, I should have looked a little closer. That one was harder than I thought.

Wow!!! Russell this poem describes a stairway of nostalgia. I know you recently told me you love nostalgia and you've shown this in excellence in this poem. A great write and thanks for sharing. Hugs and luv, Gail
