About This Poem

Remember When

Remember when
we had the air mattress
shipped, the one my brother
sent, for Christmas?

to our last
known address; how
we'd placed bets
as to the meaning
of twin size?

And as we had keys made
for our new place, and
opened the box, to find
no mattress at all, instead
neatly wrapped gifts,

a rocket and a monkey
wondrous and sweet
mystery.
