Inevitable

Lives diverge.
Maybe that's a core rule;
the child leaves the parent,
or worse, the parent leaves the child.
Either way there is emptiness somewhat like a death.
Whatever the circumstances, the relationship is changed forever.
Distance is both literal and emotional; voices become cautious
(She doesn't need to know about that.), opacity arrives.
What were once specifics become generalities.
And so it goes...

    It is sad, and unfortunately, not uncommon. I'm glad that you found it meaningful.

    Indeed...and so it goes... Truth in these words of your poem. Enjoyed the read and contemplation of thoughts.

    I can relate a bit, our son is away at University and this is a time when he needs to differentiate himself from us. Still there is a new richness to the relationship an the joy of seeing him take flight. It is also good to know that we helped build his wings. Thanks for reading some of my Poems. It is nice to make your aquaintance.

    I enjoyed reading your work, dark though it may sometimes be. But then, I'm often dark too. I hadn't thought of my son's departure, but your correct; those are the feelings. The poem though was from a far earlier experience with my daughter.
