About This Poem
A History In Buttons
In a quiet room on a rough-hewn shelf
there sits a filled up mason jar.
I put it there my very self
and it never did get awfully far.
A history of buttons dwells within:
gems of my life told in bits and pieces.
It's a story of me and where I've been:
what memories that jar releases!
Buttons from this and some from that
from uniforms to satin dresses.
I think there's even one from a hat
and who knows what if I had my guesses!
Think I will keep this jar nearby
with all the buttons it can hold.
At times I'll laugh or maybe I'll cry
about those stories yet untold!
