About This Poem

Unbuttoned

Tiny glimpse of light
From the corner of my eye.
Shiny shell-pink on ivory silk
Glinting against the grey carpet.
My favourite blouse
Unbuttoned, wrinkled,
In a pile on the floor.

Last night fills the room like smoke.

I climb out of bed on shaky legs,
Stepping over dirty clothes.
The board creaks in protest,
Fighting the unfolding
Like my heaving chest.

With trembling hands, I smooth the silk,
Ironing out the wrinkles,
Careful not to let the buttons snag.

I continue to be impressed by your work and this one is no exception; that eighth line stands alone, it is a stunner...I don't know what it is but I've noticed that most of our canadian poets are extremely talented, I think there must be something in the canadian water that produces good writers! :)

Allowing yourself to lose and regain control, a to and fro we all play out. A healthy part of living I think. This is lovely. Thanks.
