About This Poem
If Perchance I Die
If perchance that I die
I die before I wake
I ask that thou not lie
I ask for my names sake
If perchance that I die
I die here all alone
I ask that you bury me
Not leave me a chew bone
If perchance that I die
And thou are with me too
I ask that someone will come
And bury me and you.
Perchance that I should die
Not that I intend soon
I wouldn’t want to lie.
So please grant my last boon
If perchance that I die
And thou does not me see
I pray someone will let you know
So thou can shed a tear for me
