Dancing Snowflakes
Through the study window what do I espy?
Dancing snowflakes before my very eyes
It’s dark outside yet in the lamp light
I watch them dance and take flight
The breeze blows them hither and thither
The chill in the air could make you dither
Their stage is the air the lamp the spotlight
That sets them to dancing in the dark of the night
Looks like someone has broken an eiderdown
They look like they might cover the entire town
It’s the very first snow of the year outside
I suppose the kids tomorrow will slide
The country will grind to halt
The wrong snow that will be the fault
I’ll make the first footprints in the virgin snow
Spoiling the blanket on the ground I know
Meanwhile tonight I’ll watch the snow’s white ballet dance
Through the snow in the morning my dogs will prance
Knowing me I will probably end up on my back
For in snow a sense of balance is what I lack
