About This Poem
Memories Taken
Memories Taken
Memories taken from the story of our lives
Confusion blocks them from time to time
I hear you breathing trying so hard to survive
Fighting not to surrender what Alzheimer’s left behind
I see your fragile body before me
Your eyes looking so sad over to my way
A weakened soul trying so hard to be set free
From what this disease has already taken away
I see your tears searching for a trace of happiness
I dry them in the hope that a smile replaces your sorrow
Inside there’s a sense of emptiness
Knowing that you might not be with me tomorrow
All the memories of us then would be taken
To be carried with you up to heaven’s window
For God would make sure that our love would not be forsaken
From the day I have to let you go…
