Old Tom

Eight times he looked death right in the eyes, sometimes facing freezing nights when nobody heard his cries, sometimes getting into fights with others of his kind, left almost crippled twice, and one time nearly blind. Another time he got run over by a car. No matter, though, he had a mighty lucky star. That old, bold, grey tomcat, forced to live outdoors, often fell off walls but landed on all fours! Now going on nine lives, Old Tom still thrives. Written 1/9/12 for the 9 Poetry contest of Tracie- Indigo Dreamweaver

That's one unlucky lucky cat! I once had a dog that was shot twice, had his ear ripped off by another animal of some kind, was stolen (for two weeks before I found him), and eventually got ran over. I found him frozen to the road.

I loved this.... :-) I had a cat which lived to 21 1/2 years (just missing the record books). The best thing I love about cats is that you do not own them - they own you. :-D

Cats don't really have nine lives, but you have chosen an excellent subject for this kind of poem. Very good as usual.

This is such a good poem !!! Note: Check word count on line that begins with "That old bold tomcat,..." perhaps out of doors?? or live with nature?? This was actually a fun contest...and even though the rules were simple the writing was not !! It's a winner for sure !!

A lonely cat will break your heart when left to run and chase and dart. You hear them wine and hiss and yeow. In the middle of the night, you think, what now. You hear the storys, some good, some bad. But when they cry, your always sad. Keep warm and fed Tom. Nice tribute to the poor little rat catchers. :)'s

I found a cat at a Arizona rescue shelter... I don't know most of her life... But she lived in a very hot, dry, desert... Obviously had lots of kittens... Lost a third of her tail... and when rescued the elderly lady quickly ended up in a nursing home. An old man adopted her but decided he didn't want to keep her... Back to the human society again...But I said no... She came home on a plan with his daughter... She'll remain there cared for and loved for the rest of her life... Loved your poem.
