The Lost Child

She had ten little fingers
and ten small rosy toes
she wore a gorgeous smile
and a little button nose
she laughed the sweetest laugh
and her skin was soft and fair
around her face, dark ringlets
she got my curly hair
she had her daddy's eyes
a vibrant greenish-blue
she was my little girl
that never made it through

Wow, does that hit home. I had the same experience with a son some years back, and the emotional toll was staggering. I can only accept it today by thinking there is a reason for everything, even if I don't know what that reason is. Very touching write...

I'm very sorry for your loss Curt. I think that's wise of you to see it that way. It makes it heal a little better.
