Different Air

Good morning I say to the seagulls
That used to annoy me so much
I do not mind waking with the loud church bells
Which used to interrupt my sleep so deep
The homeless on the other side of my window
Do not scare me anymore
And stray cats lying on warm car boots
Do nothing but add to what is picturesque

Pavement in shades of red, grey and brown
Lead to an abandoned palace
My grandfather used to have his bed
In that what is a cafe now
While sand so soothing
Shows me the way to the calming pier
To know I am safe, independent and free
I really admire what has been brought to me

Wobbly trams used to make me sick
Now it is the only way I like to travel
Gypsies in the market close to my home
Are like us striking for the best possible
When a thunder bangs and a lightning is a meter above my head
I look through my window but do not mind to get soaked
With a chimney letting go of smoke and a bonfire of red bricks lit
I cannot imagine a place better than this

Bookshelves supporting lives of characters stuck in covers
I do not mind blowing off layers of dust
To be on the roof was once scary enough
Now I only look at my balcony to which I am above
This surely is the town, the centre, the flat
Which brings hard workers together and lets them rest
To be too far away from what means so much
Will never find another place like this.
