Twas the Night Before Christmas

On the eve of Christmas from an ICU bed
A joyous miracle about to be seen
A homeless man laid his fractured head
Ten hours prior shook his tambourine

Without earthly possessions he still felt rich
Praising his God from a corner in the alley
Beaten and discarded in a dark muddy ditch
Prepared to sail out on his grand finale

The hospital staff was stunned and dismayed
An image of Christ burst bright from his eyes
A heavenly miracle on our Savior’s birthday
A faithful servant received his eternal prize

Written for Kim Merryman’s Contest-“Here We Go a Caroling”
A quatrain inspired by the title of a Christmas song

I really like the last verse because it so well portrays the example and effect those that love Christ can have on others. Nice work!

GWen, does this mean that he died? How very sad and yet at the same time, it's so sweet that he had the light of Christ in his eyes at the end. YOu took a totally different route from me with this song choice and did wonderfully.

Wow Gwendolen, this is an extremely powerful and wondrous write here my friend! I am amazed at its truth and irony within the homeless man and joy...he was coming now to his eternal glory! And on Christmas to boot...what a way to go, I would like that myself, to be happy like he was, to feel rich even without possessions that I may want! And I do feel that way for I have my family, both here and on the Soup! I am surely blessed! Thank you for this poem! Great Work!!
