Books Not Magazines

12/14/12
They wanted books, not magazines.

Wings clipped before the birds could leave the nest,
means Christmas with unopened presents, and empty seats at the dinner table.
Lives taken by a man, harassed and tormented because he’s unstable
forcing a school preparing for holidays to now lay 20 coffins to rest.

Heaven has its angels now, hell has a new Dylan Klebold,
but here on Earth, families come to grips with their new reality.
Mommy and daddy cry through the night, questioning the nature of this brutality;
A thinker, a leader, an artist: All taken in seconds leaving countless stories untold.

Who’s to blame for the deaths on this tragic day?
We always blame the perp, and turn a blind eye to ourselves.
Are we to afraid of what might happen if we decide to delve?
It doesn’t matter what is said, we all have a role in our society’s decay.

Nothing will change unless we take a stand, and make ourselves heard.
When the deaths of children becomes common, and your own have died,
Will that be enough to spur you to action, or will you remain quiet and stand aside
as others fight against those acting in this theater of the absurd?

    "It doesn’t matter what is said, we all have a role in our society’s decay. Nothing will change unless we take a stand, and make ourselves heard." This is one of the best poems I have read on this topic. We can't just stand by and cry. We need to take positive action. Love this one."
