A Lonely Christmas

The Christmas Memories of the past are beautiful, when the kids were little and we could all Celebrate as a family. As they were growing up, we still celebrated the Holidays. There was never a lot of money to buy expensive gifts, but we manage to have enough food and buy a few gifts for everyone. Those were the happy days, or shall I say - the Good old days. Soon the kids grew up, got married and moved away. They don't come around much. They now have their own celebrations. Some parents are forgotten and are now alone, because one left, or has passed away. Sometimes it is a single mother, that went through a lot of hard times to raise her kids. That mother, now sits alone on this lonely Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, thinking of what the days gone by used to be. The Baby Jesus is the only one that keeps her company on this Christmas Day...

It needs to be said... I'm in Sun City Arizona. A community of retired people... The restaurants were packed with lonely people (in lines down the sidewalk) for Christmas dinner... They didn't want to be alone...

Sad to think that anyone would have to spend Christmas alone but just having the children grow up and leave beginning their own homes causes there to be a vacancy in parents homes..Some parents like the new freedom and some are just lost as what to do now...Great work expressing the topic..Enjoyed reading your work..Thanks for stopping by .Sara

Very nice poem! It is sad that on Christmas or Thanksgiving that anyone should be alone. This is a time for family, young and old, to get together. How things have changed over the years. I hope you will not be alone this Christmas holiday.

On the Norwegian T.V. : An elderly lady who did not have family and all her friends were dead. She put an ad in the newspaper: - "Seeking a family with children to celebrate Christmas with." ...... - She got many responses, and have chosen a family with three children, mother, father and two dogs. - Yes, there are many lonely people at Christmas. - Very well written Lucilla, thank you. - oxox / / Anne-Lise :)

I know my own mother just loves when family visits her for Xmas. I sure wish I lived close by my mom. It's sad for me and Joe too. even though we normally get to see half our grandkids, we never get to be with extended family on this special time. Good one!

What a wonderful caring poem this is, and written by a wonderful caring poet...i'm not a fan of christmas as it is today Lucilla, because what it as become as created a lot of what you write about here..i have no solution(wish i had) but we need each other (Soup) especially with the love that you portray, in your poetry...i'll be thinking of all those alone on christmas day, believe me i will.
