A Material Christmas

It's Christmas! Christmas!
That time of year
When people are filled...
With holiday cheer?

Yeah right. . .
I really do wish it were true
But people are people
Through and through

It's not about happiness anymore
Or in respect to what matters.
In reality it concerns what you get
And the food that is piled on the platters.

What has happened to the world of today?
Where is the 'loving and giving...'?
Now it is all just me, me, me.
Is this a nightmare? Or are we actually living.

Yep we might have a lot of things
Hang on! Let's add some more
It isn't the family that I'm expecting
But the postman knocking at the door.

When the topic turns to Christmas cheer
Lets go stuff our faces...
Break out all that lovely beer!
Chuck away those graces!

But... Suddenly the month is over
There go all the gifts you gave
Your debt payments crawl closer and closer
And you become a material slave.

We all have to learn controll ..I remember when you didn't buy what you couldn't pay for cash! [and I'm back to that now by necessity] Light & Love

You highlighted your message with some rhyme, and a good show of emotion. I completely understand the family aspect of the Christmas holidays, but it sure is becoming even more increasingly material....I recall a few years back when I wondered if the mass-consumer aspect of Christmas was able to get worse than it already was....

Oh what a shame for you, but you are right this is a nightmare time for so many people who feel compelled to splash out where they cannot afford it. I am happy not to celebrate this one xx

It's not so much Christmas as it is I don't really understand why people have to place so much importance on material things. Personally I am looking forward to it but not for gifts but because it is a day to be with my family and I appreciate it so much more now because I realise that I won't be with them as much anymore :) xx
