Eyes Of Children

When precious children look into my eyes They should not see things I despise Rather love should always be In my eyes for them to see. But should I fail to satisfy their gaze And somehow in their eager minds I raise Questions left for those who follow soon And with their precious spirits will commune. Let No one take these innocents astray Or change their golden skies to shades of gray. Let no path to riches for them be denied And in their hearts may love always abide. By their holy innocence we're awed Surely they are precious gifts from God.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments. They inspire me to create more. If you liked this one you will love "Our Hearts Are Broken Too" written in memory of those lost in Newtown, CT. ...... May God continue to draw you close and keep you always, In His Love.......Jake

The innocence of a child, so tender, is such a true blessing from god, they are the next generation, to teach us, what's important... A real Baby genius write my friend.

Nice Jake. Enjoyed the sentiment and can't believe you've not written a sonnet before.

Hi Jake...this is such a beautiful poem. It almost brings me to tears thinking about the many children who don't get to live the innocence and have it taken away and the many children who don't see just a life of love around them to keep them safe. - thank you for writing such touching words. - Shaz

I believe it takes ten times the laughter of a child to overcome a tinge of pain and hunger experienced by a child..... that is.... if you can even put a number on it...... Thanks for allowing me to vent.... Love Ya! ..Jake

I can't believe that you wrote such a beautiful comment on my sonnet, and I come here to thank you and I read an amazing sonnet such as this. You, sir, are the one who leaves others breathless. Thank you so much for your encouragement, Jake. I can't tell you what it means to me, to hear such praise coming from a writer like you. This poem is so touching.

Rebecca, I was not blowing smoke when I commented on your sonnet. It inspired me to write "Eyes of Children" this very afternoon. I didn't even realize what a sonnet was and had never attempted one until today. I'm still not certain that I got it right... Love Ya lots!...... Jake
