Down from the Pedestal

You fell from the pedestal
With a strong resounding crash
I rushed to pick the pieces
To throw them out with the trash

I worked to clean the rubble
That your falling left behind
Surprised that I had no tears
For I knew I had been blind

I had simply adored you
I had worshipped at your feet
I had seen you as perfect
To be near you was my treat

I made you a demi god
Invested you with great charm
Couldn’t see the tell-tale cracks
You used devotion to harm

For I thought you were splendid
My life revolved around you
Little did my trusting heart
Believe what they said was true

But then my eyes were opened
Caught a glimpse of what is real
My heart started to crumble
Each piece unable to feel

You fell from the pedestal
I see you with different eyes
That lie was the fatal crack
That brought about your demise

So now you stand with renewed strength / and pick up pieces that were broken / With eyes that see and mended heart / A vibrant woman has awoken. I realize this beautiful poem of yours is for a contest and probably fictional. But if you have gone through heartbreak my little poem is for you.

Hi Jon. A poem....for me??? I'm so so touched! It's lovely! Thanks ever so much. My poem was born out of pain. I didn't write it for a contest. I haven't joined a single one yet. I put him on a pedestal....he didn't necessarily want to be there, but...I tend to be intense. Oh well, we live and learn. ;) Thanks so much for reading and posting! Hugs!

Wow, this poem is spectacular, by far one of my favorites I have ever read (and I'm not just saying that). Is it published or what? It's really good, and you are extremely talented... I've read some of your other poems as well. You should visit my site: ! I think this poem could have a really good chance of winning one of our contests! Wish you the best with your poetry and I hope you get published! : )Jacob Cramer

Jacob, are you for real? Be still my heart! I'm so thankful for your high opinion of my work. My dream is to be a published poetess one day. I'm consumed by it. It's almost 1:00 am in this part of the world, so I will have to contemplate on this lovely possibility in the morning! Thank you ever so much! I'm honored!

David, thank you for your post. Sometimes the rosy tinted glasses need to come off so we can see that nobody is perfect. I know I'm not. I was wondering whether I should somehow weave that into the poem, but thought to leave it as is. Glad you like it. :) Have a lovely day!
