About This Poem

Black for a Reason

We all get up early
To head out to the mall
For Black Friday Bargains
We want to get them all

First there's all the line ups
We're set to crash the door
Here for all our treasures
Waiting inside the store

The entrance is opened
we all push and we shove
Forget the Christmas Spirit
This sure aint about love

Cash registers flashing
Bing Bang Ring a Ding Ding
The money is flowing
People buying their Bling

Some people get trampled
They didn't factor that cost
All those stupid profits
In the end will be lost

I am blown away by how starkly honest this is. I remember seeing a photo on facebook that said "Define Necessity" and it showed a picture of starving African children next to a picture of ladies with looming piles of gift that couldn't even fit in the shopping cart. This will have to go to my favorites, and I'll be sure to read again when Christmas draws near once more. The deaths on Black Friday is just plain sad...

I know what you mean... Black Friday shopping is only for the bold and the brave. LOL I don't do BFS for the crowds, etc. as mentioned in your poem, which by the way captured the event truthfully. Hope you had a good Thanksgiving, Richard. Always, Annalise

We have ours in October here in Canada. Even so I try to be thankful every day.

This reminds me of Arnold Schwarzenegger's movie in "Jingle All The Way", when he and the other person got nuts because of 1 toy robot on "black Friday"? :D

Bing Bang Ring a Ding Ding? heh :D Nice poem and so true, from what I hear. I have never been out on black Friday and I never plan to, I would probably have an anxiety attack.

I am not much of a shopper at the best of times. I would sooner pay more and avoid the lineups.
