About This Poem

Release

If the words I've kept tucked away unfold
To spread themselves across this page,
Would clarity finally show itself to me-
Free me from this maelstrom of rage?

Floating along doesn't come gracefully
Without my feelings being unfurled;
Should serenity in turn befriend me
If they set sail into the world?

A pool of rage can grow so viciously
It will flood me like a disease-
I must find something to rescue me...
Spilling words out is my release.

Just stopping by to thank you for your comment on my "Sister" poem. My younger sister is my best friend too. She and I have always been extremely close, and I am so grateful to have her in my life! It always makes me happy to hear about other people who are just as close with their siblings :)

Glad I'm not the only one that view the spilling of words like this. I really love that image of your creations "setting sail into the world". Only other writers will really understand what that means to let go a piece of yourself for other's to so openly view. One of your deepest works that I've read so far!

The release insightful and pleasant. This is a good quatrain. I actually first started with sonnets. I think writing sonnets, couplets, or quatrains, make one naturally good at the villanelle. I look forward to your next attempt at one. I'm not sure who is using the form here on a regular basis. I don't assume I'm the only one, but do wonder lol.

A awesome poem Anne. Yes, rage and anger can grow like a disease so we have to release them and how better than words. Nicely said. love phyl

And you do it so stylishly...It tweaks the edges of my SOUL...My Young and beautiful friend...I so envy you...your beautiful freshly clear and delicious young mind!!! So full of Incredible Promise. What I wouldn't give to touch your cheek and gaze into those deeply innocent young eyes ...Sorry ..didn't mean to get so carried away...but the taste of your sweet breath still lingering on your words is incredibly intoxicating...i lost my head, and spoke carelessly, from my heart...

I really like the idea of words as release. Of course, words can be many things... everything maybe. Lovely poem. Thanks for writing it. Jack

Okay, this is genius! The fact that it's inspired by anger is that much more impressive. So many writers try to hide the power of rage and the beauty of anger. I love that you embrace even this emotion as part of your motivation for words and ideas. You, my dear, have and are something to inspire to! Also, I thank you more than anything for your kind words on my writing. I promise to read and comment on every piece you have posted on here. I feel like I've made a friend! Lol.

They say anger is hurt held back for too long. When it is held for much too long, then it becomes guilt that you turn against yourself. So--express yourself and damn the torpedoes!! The poem is wonderful.
