Don't Hate Her

Don't hate her because she's beautiful
Or envy that she's hot
She is all about appearances
It consumes her every thought

Try to look a little closer
Past the makeup and the hair
Beauty has little value
If a person doesn't care

Looks are her priorities
She doesn't work on what's inside
People tell her she's beautiful
She gorges on her pride

She's an emotional anorexic
Soul food she refuses to eat
Her behavior reinforced
When people fall at her feet

She craves the admiration
The attention she receives
Pretty is her curse
In the end it's her disease

She becomes a caricature
Her illusion to maintain
Fighting the mirror and time
Over and over again

I appreciate a beautiful woman but the Beauty has to emanate from a much deeper place for me to truly appreciate it. The most beutiful women I have met have become more beautiful with each word they have spoken. We need to stop emphasizing the physical when we raise our children, we will then raise up a generation of truly beautiful people.

Richard...I wish all men thought like you do. I mean...ideally speaking inner beauty should win out, but....it isn't often the case. Beautiful can be an asset. Ah...to be a beauty queen WITH personality would be ideal. You write was perfect in every single way. ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL! :)

Thanks Eileen. The ones who see beauty where others cannot have a treasure to themselves.

Hiding behind that feeling proof glass...costly cosmetics shellack her fears, a thick veil of deception...//I started this once, got no where. // You say it well, Richard - "emotional anorexic" - great line.

You have some good lines here, I think it is worth another try!

Thanks John, I am not anti Beauty I just think we should examine the way our Society tends to worship appearance and what an effect it has on all of us. We have a whole generation that is obseesed with physical appearance and even who we se as the prettiest of women don't feel good about themselves.

Amen to that! Reminds me of my limerick about the girl with the silk skin. I love the message portrayed, beauty is ONLY and should ONLY be found from within. Great write Richard :)

Facebook is useful in many ways, especially keeping in contact with people you might not see regularly, but yes, I agree! People post quite mindless things haha that's why I spend more time on the soup so I can read mindful things :)

I am on Facebook but not really a fan, I am amazed at some of the stupid things people post. I can't remember the last time I checked my account.

It has been great getting to know you too! I was drawn to you the moment I read one of your poems :) I love this little poetry community, it's far better than wasting hours of my life reading Facebook statuses! Haha

I think that is an excellent comparison, I really like that poem. The reality is that first we see the outside and make judgements before we really get to know people. I think that's why I am drawn to this venue because it allows us to look below the surface. I have very much enjoyed getting to know you. You are one of the first to introduce yourself when I got started here.

I agree that physically attractive women have to also deal with people not taking the time to see their inner beauty. Some men will never be able to look past outward appearance. I think they are missing out.

i agree...inner beauty is where it is, someone can be gorgeous but have a bad personality, and to me they are plain ugly...loved this poem!

Totally agree Sandra, we all have met these people. The great thing about people is that they have an infinit capacity for change and may just be going through a phase.

a powerful write that celebrates inner beauty and self-esteem, richard... images so crisp they lend so well with the theme.." She becomes a caricature , emotional anorexic" are just a few... a-ok!..:) huggs

Very true John, beauty does attract perverts, who sit and stare at people all day, but I'm sure Richard wouldn't stare at a pretty woman, would you ? love elizabeth

I think Beauty attracts everyone, perverts included. The difference is the places that Beauty is able to be seen.

I am glad you like it. In answer to your question: I hadn't written anything for over 7 years and started up again last Christmas. I am now almost finished my first book and going through the final edit process. Hope to be in print the first quarter of next year. A lot more involved than I had originaly thought.

Hi Richard yes all that glitters is not gold, but you have hit the truth with the fact that beauty comes from within, all the best Owen

Thanks Owen, I have been with a few physically attractive women that somehow became unatractive as I had gotten to know them. A rather interesting phenomonin. Fortunately most women become more beautiful when you take the time to get to know them.
