Summer Rain

She closed Her eyes to hide
Herself
Away from the world upon a
shelf
Where dust took the form of
itching tears
Warm and burning, yet cold
with fear
That chased after Her in the
sting of day
Annoying Her with Apollo's rays

Scorched and spent, Her body
soaked
In the summer rain that hurt so
dearly,
Loved so strongly and then hurt
again

The blood in Her veins formed a
moat
Like a lover's last sacrifice to
protect Her heart
Against the tender caress of
that summer rain

After this union of blood and
flame
Her heart survived, widowed
and drained
Mourning Her dearest with a
funeral pyre
Broken and hollow She
remained
The tears in Her eyes absorbed
themselves
Erasing and retracing every
stain of pain
So that their beloved young
angel may sleep again
Forever more under the
summer rain
