new lovers - glowing - 
explore each other's bodies

      incandescence blooms

              the moon peeks down through branches
                                    of the oak two lie beneath

    Congratulations on winning an Honorable Mention in my contest, TANKA - THE PIVOT, Andrea. Great contrast between the heat ("incandescence") of the moment and the cold light ("moon") that had perhaps been witness to another scene. The branches of the oak (a metaphor for life?) must have been denude of folage for the moon to peek through. Memories have the tendency to be evoked when we are placed in a similar situation, not least of these being after a passionate embrace. Love, Su

    Great job writing this tanka, Andrea. You know me when it comes to the syllable counts of Japanese forms written in English. Hey, most of my previous tanka posted on the Soup are actually pseudo-tanka(I am practicing off-site and not publicly posting my latest tanka). Lovely imagery in this romanticist tanka. It's good to see that a few soupers are beginning to catch on(even so, one person's thoughts on wot tanka is/isn't, can still be very biased.

    I like Joe's comment below...I too wonder how many lovers this oak has seen....? Romantic setting with nature curiously taking a peek! Love it! (NO BUG BITES IN THE POEM?...awwww,...give the lovers a few bug bites!! hahaahhahah....Suzette should really appreciate this entry!

    I really enjoyed this sweet tanka of yours-- and such a cool & unique line that is, "incandescence blooms".... and with the moon playing peek-a-boo, that is very nice how you did that-- speeding through here and I got to go.
