A Lifetime Prison

Skeletal remains are all but left
Of a man who lived life bereft,
Tho’ the warden is never seen
He is behind every evil scheme,

Guilty is your only logical plea
When a sinner is what you’ll be,
Doing time is nowt but a quest
Having failed to pass life’s test,

Hope is a nightmarish dream
Yet changeless if you scream,
Solemn tears extinct run dry
On death row awaiting to die,

Cutoff from reality’s torment
Of senseless hours misspent,
Aghast within the mind’s eye
Inward visions you can’t deny,

Entrapped in soulless solitude
Inept at altering your mood,
Mere existence remains bleak
Escape is yesteryear’s antique,

Rather useless as paying bail
For freedom’s but a fairy tale,
So listen closely as you hear
The past wantonly disappear,

Youthful ire may start afresh
Hidden deep with your flesh,
Surely life happens only once
For every poor amoral dounce,

A lifetime prison is manifest
In a dreary deathless quest,
Beyond life’s one last request
If you know not what is best.
