About This Poem

white washed

Multiculturalism has given the concept of whiteness a nudge, a shove, making place for ethnically international colors of race, cast, creed. Social status, social progress in strata of society has been given a jolt, shaking it from its stupor of stereotyped thinking. Whiteness, in a way has become cliched. Globalization, where borders and boundaries seemed to have melted away, still racial boundaries exist...differentiating human races on the on the basis of what the eye beholds. Our visual senses have been conditioned..minds distorted with theories deficient in human value..thought processes harangued by discrepancies in the system loaded on to susceptible minds.. There is no supremacy of color and whiteness is appropriate where it pervades but it is a potent illusion that sometimes lingers on.. This color code in the racial hierachy makes the human race vulnerable, deluding thoughtless minds...whiteness in itself is not a color, a universal fascinations fading into shades of grey, black, brown.. As man indulges his fancy letting go off white doves carrying the hopes of peace under their wings.....is just a concluding speculation...

I can relate, my city Kelowna has been in the news lately because it is one of the whitest cities in British Columbia. We moved here 15 years ago and it has only changed a little bit. When my son went to school he was picked on for being Chinese. My wife would have people talk louder to her assuming she didn't understand English.( she speaks perfectly without any accent). We have however built a great life here and have made wonderful friends.

yasmin, this is truly remarkable, you are visulizing the world order, a power anonymous, yet hell bent on creating a one cultured world, regardless of who's traditions are spent and destroyed....
