SURVEILLANCE

For our safety we are watched constantly
Electronic eyes unable to account
For the nuances of human behaviour
Infiltrate all aspects of living
Criminalizing us

Laying bare all our sins
Intrusive watchmen abound
Debasing all ideas of privacy
Our misdemeanors forever present in cyberspace
We can never repent nor forget

Our liberty is easily seduced from us
With the promise of big brother's
Constant all seeing comforting eyes
And supposedly broad shoulders
Protecting us from the ghost of an unknown future

The all intrusive camera on every street
Now replaces the curtain twitching busy bodies
Of yesterday
We are always naked
Baring all to a hidden authoritarian
Who wants to eat away at our soul

Must we hide in order to have some privacy?
Has liberty become a defunct creed?
Is anonymity only present in your psyche
Where no one can infiltrate?
Must we continue to be defiled so intimately
And thoroughly?

The value of protection today is
A necessary cost ever present in our mindset
We must have no peace it seems in these turbulent times
The attraction of emotional safety
Trumps petty squabbles over rights

Fear of terrorism
That age old problem
Results in ego trips from those in authority
Them who wish to bolster their popularity
By smothering us with hysterical flam

Fear is often thankfully unfounded
But anxiety rules the day
And will always keep common sense at bay

Lone rangers abound who will
Fight for his fellow brother's inalienable rights
Despite the dangers to himself
A knight in shining armour he surely is
Long may he live and believe
In the goodness of humanity with all its variety

A totalitarian philosophy permeates authority
This ogre of pseudo democracy
Floods society with its false dogma
Downgrading man’s Basic intelligence
And his ideas of
Right from wrong

Being watched
Analyzed
And caged
Is no way to foster community cohesion
And brotherly love

Liberty and rights
Are variable
Depending on the locality and peoples involved
We must not rescind our rights
In order to appease those in authority

Those that rule
Do so with our authority
Let them not hijack our liberty

yeah, the all seeing eye, it's everywhere these days, and the louder you scream, "go away" the longer they stay. I have found that the only answer is to bore them to death. HA1 hugs, Catie :)
