this is so very true. I can think of a few friends who just disposed of me after we had had very special bonds and it was for very stupid reasons. at the same time, there are some friendships that actually can become dangerous. I can think of a case where my friendship with a girl was getting very creepy as if she were stalking me. This poem gives us a lot to think about. VERY nice.

This write hits so close to home, Rebecca-- sad whenever a friend shuts that door, puts up that wall-- I like to think of myself as that friend who decides to stay, who will always be there no matter what. Even if they don't want me to be their friend, I'll stay as their friend. Sometimes it's tricky to figure out til when, but if the friendship is worth it in the 1st place, then it is worth it. I read somewhere some put up walls not to shut others out, but to know who cares to break it down.

Beautifully stated Rebecca! I like the title, it sums up the theme very well - some friendships deserve to be kept and some are best left alone. And I like how you said 'try to do the hard thing', that way we won't give up too easily but we'll still have the courage to walk away when it's called for. Very well written!

It sounds like you have the right idea. I would be honoured to count someone like you as a friend.

Rebecca this is one of the nicest poems I've read. It is certainly one of my favourite. It is so reassuring to have a friend that no matter what, won't desert you and you in turn, do the same. Wonderful poem, thank you for sharing this great work. Lee

I had a girl back in college who kept cutting me short when I called her. She was beginning to avoid me for some unknown reason. Today, I have not even thought of her until I read this nicely written piece.

Rebecca, this is awesome! I have caught myself doing the same thing with questionable relationships. I admire your honesty and feelings here! Great message for all. Take care, Chris:)

Thanks Chris.... well, to make a "disclaimer" on this, I realize that sometimes we do need to walk away from a relationship. Some are just toxic. Thanks for your comment! :) Take care!
