Existence

a incorrigible mind that will not sleep
a countenance that does daily weep
a soul that nightly wallows in the deep
a man that lies despondent in a heap
a spirit that remains yet faithful to keep
a will that aspires to heights too steep
a heart that strains to maintain upkeep
a breath’s rhythm that slows while asleep
a body that has not the strength to leap
a thought that wonders at evens’ neap
a flesh that oftentimes seeks to creep
a life that sows what it will surely reap
a voice that willfully utters not a peep
a death that happens in one fell sweep
