The Virgin Mother

The Virgin Mother

A statue of the Virgin Mother
Made of polished white marble
Her face has been stained by God
Half black and half white
She stands at the front of the church
Mary watches the people walk below her
People on their way to work
Buying food for their hungry children
Some sleep at her feet because they have no home
She watches over all of them
Her protective arms held open to welcome them
She does not ask for thanks
She does not want people to bow at her feet
She has never asked for anything
Mary will stand there forever
Loving, protecting and saving the people
Everyone who passes her by is the same in her heart
If someone stops and looks at her
They will see the slightest smile on her lips
They will know the purest love
The love from the holiest of mothers
